Movie House Cinemas is celebrating its 20th birthday in style this week! The events kicked off at Movie House Glengormley – the first cinema in the group – which opened on September 28, 1990.

The cinema hosted a special screening of Pretty Woman, which was the first film screened here two decades ago.

“It’s been a really exciting twenty years,” Managing Director Michael McAdam said. “Movie House is all about showing the best films in the nicest setting for our customers. We are always looking ahead and trying to give people what they want. We were the first multiplex in Northern Ireland, we introduced salted popcorn and nachos in our cinemas before anyone else in the North, we were first to bring in cup holders and big American rocking seats. And we are the first and only cinema company in the UK and Ireland that doesn’t charge a premium for 3D movies.”

“We’re looking forward to another 20 years and can’t wait to see what the future brings,” he added.

In addition to the screening of Pretty Woman, the Yorkgate/Cityside cinema will be holding a special romantic screening of Life As We Know It on Thursday for couples who had their first dates at one of the five Movie House Cinemas (and who are still together!).
