Sean Montgomery and Gina McBride
Romance was in the air last night -- check out how Sean Montgomery proposed to Gina McBride at Movie House Cinemas Cityside Belfast. This was broadcast on the big screen before the movie started, all that was left to do was to Pop the Question in person...
When it comes to popping the question, one Belfast man decided to think BIG!
Sean Montgomery (31) from North Belfast decided the time was right to propose to his 25-year-old girlfriend Gina McBride this week.
Not one to do things in small ways, he made his own mini-movie and screened it during a public performance at Movie House Cityside/Yorkgate on Thursday night before getting down on one knee and asking her to marry him.
When Sean approached the Movie House with his idea, it was an offer they couldn’t refuse from the local videographer. And the audience for the 7.40pm Keith Lemon movie got more than they bargained for when “the proposal” popped up on the big screen after the normal adverts.
The romantic movie kicked off with a line directed straight at his bride-to-be: “This Year’s Most Romantic Comedy– Even You Gina McBride Might Like It”. It then faded into a shot of lovestruck Sean hiding behind a copy of 50 Shades of Grey before he starts miming to Bruno Mars “Marry You” along with a montage of snaps of the happy couple.
“I wanted to do something really big for Gina and couldn’t think of anything better than proposing to her in our local cinema. We go to the movies a lot and so this seemed perfect,” he said.
The movie ends with Sean professing his love for Gina but the actual question was made in real life with Sean dropping to one knee to ask his dream girl to marry him.
But Gina was so shocked she couldn’t get the words out. Luckily four girls in the audience sitting behind the couple whispered “answer him” and Gina finally shouted “yes” before getting a huge cheer from the audience in the cinema.
“When I saw my name on the biggest screen I’d ever seen, I was totally in shock. It was just so amazing and so like Sean to go out of his way to do something special. I can’t wait to marry him,” Gina said.
Sean added that the hardest part was keeping the proposal a secret from Gina. “That’s been a nightmare; it’s taken a lot of organisation and help from her mother. And then after all the effort to get her to the cinema, she nearly missed the proposal because she wanted to go and get a popcorn and Coke! Putting the movie together was the easy part! The people at the Movie House were really helpful – they really got behind it,” he said.
Movie House Cityside manager Magdalene Duffy said: “We were delighted to help Sean out; it was such a unique way to propose and we thought it was lovely. Let’s hope that after such a fantastic ‘Proposal’ he turns out to be a great ‘Wedding Planner!’ ”
Now Sean, who videos other people’s weddings, faces the challenge of finding someone to film his big day.
